Statutes Amendment (Sentencing) | 85 85A |
House of Assembly | 09/09/2020 |
This Act amends the Criminal Procedure Act 1921 and the Sentencing Act 2017 by reducing the discount available pursuant to sentence reduction schemes which operate within the South Australian criminal justice system. The Act responds to recommendations arising from a 2018-19 review conducted by the Hon. Brian Martin AO QC, and will ensure that:
- sentence reductions received by defendants are more closely aligned with community expectations; and
- courts can apply sentence reductions more flexibly than has previously been the case.
