This Act amends the Criminal Law (Legal Representation) Act 2001 by making changes to the processes by which the Legal Services Commission is reimbursed for costs of expensive criminal trials.
The Act ensures that the Legal Services Commission will be subject to consistent, predictable costs when taking on serious criminal cases and will allow the Commission to fulfil its role of providing legal assistance for serious criminal matters whilst also continuing to fund their other important work including the provision of community legal advice, education and representation in family law, domestic violence and mental health matters. |
