This Act amends the Bail Act 1985 and the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 to implement two recommendations of the Independent Inquiry into Child Protection undertaken by Paul Rice QC and tabled in the House of Assembly on 16 February 2021. The Bill makes the following two changes:
- increases the penalty for failing to comply with a direction made by the Chief Executive of the Department for Child Protection; and
- provides that the presumption in favour of bail does not apply for persons arrested for a breach of directions.
