Precis

This Act seeks to amend the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 by making a range of changes arising from the 2013 review of the Act and several subsequent internal reviews undertaken by the emergency services sector. The amendments seek to address a range of issues including:

  • employment insecurity of volunteers who are absent from work, on official duties as a member of an emergency services organisation when responding to an emergency;
  • breaches of permit conditions imposed by authorised officers;
  • providing Police Officers with the power, under certain circumstances to direct the cessation of certain activities that because of weather conditions the fire, if caused by the activity, might get out of control; and
  • various technical issues raised by emergency services organisations relating to apparent anomalies or ambiguities in the existing Act.
